" Why do you get angry ? "

As a class 7 kid I used to be reaaallyy shot tempered. I would get angry at the drop of a hat. One fine day, I was sitting in the lawn with my dad and grandpa and my grandpa was talking to my dad about JD Krishnamurthy. Then he started talking to me. He said... " how do you see a tree ? " ... Just imagine looking at a tree and look at it the way it is and don't associate any name to it... Then he went on to say... Whenever you get angry, think about what are you angry of ? Who are you ? Do not associate yourself with any name, any tag... There have been billions of people living, since billions of years... what are you... I don't know why but this thought struck me, and I feel it had a impact on me !

Isn't getting angry one of the most basic emotions of us animals ? is anger bad ?

Well... sure getting angry is an instinct... But getting carried away in anger is not a blissfull experience... However it is... I haven't said that it is good or bad... Infact in many situations showing anger is necessary! For instance a person who is trying to take advantage of one's politeness may be shown anger... But there is a difference between showing anger and becoming angry... In "showing" anger you are cool and in control of yourself... but when one becomes angry due to situations around you, there then one has lost one self... One does things that are not beneficial for either party !

I am wondering what you are trying to say in this post...you are saying that you were short tempered and then you shifted to the perceiving of a tree ...
are these isolated incidents or are they linked?

ViShaL MeRaNi said...

Well these were the events that actually happened... and yaa.. these apparently isolated looking events affected my anger! Strange na! Actually its probably the realization of the vastness of the creation... On realizing how vast the universe is... Small things stop worrying you...

I agree with what you say. It took me time to figure out the funda. But tell me something...when a human being is angry will s/he stop to think about their own insignificance in comparison to the vastness of the universe. Or will the anger take over their rational thought completely (which is what happens in most cases)...?

Yaa its so true... Its again like in the "Pain" blog... When the emotion takes over you mere intellect is helpless... However, sometimes a realization from the intellect may penetrates into the heart... thats when it has an impact in the daily life... Actually the realization from the intellect always penetrates, How deep is the question?

Hmmnnnn..."sometimes a realization from the intellect may penetrate into the heart" ... interesting
...but how many people can actually realize this...?
also when someone is angry that person is feeling it...it is an emotion which is from the heart and not from the intellect...right?

First i read the blog and thought it was deep. Then i again read it and found that it was thought provoking. Then again i read it for the third time and a question arose within me. Aren't humans meant to be different from trees and may be thats why they are humans and not trees! may be nature expects something better from a human then resisting anger? Premises: I believe that humans are evolved species over trees...

Isn't it something like the anger is the most common thing in any individual whether its an animal or human.but linking it with the tree i think it was like the trees can't express emotions but they face harshness they are bound to control their anger ....... in some parts of the world, the practise of making th land clear by not cutting the trees is practised ...ppl start saying hard words to trees and it is said that the tree dies away in few days.....this means they understand the anger but they cant express there inner self.it hurts them and it is well said where their r kids playing aroung that tree bears gud fruits whether its the myth or true thing.but it is well said

God damn it !!

You born in a family where two generations talk about 'How to look at the tree'. Pity you. Krishnamurti is freaking brilliant , his theory of pure perception without any association ( in a way free from time ) is way too good.

Anger is a big energy , i enjoy the fraction of second awareness just before the anger burst , then and there you know you are going to get angry. Its fun watching these energies passing through us , sometimes.
